The HIV/AIDS Network, 1998-2004! This online member drive is to gather some money for needed items to make our network more of a success! We are 1/4 way there as of August/Sep1 2004!

Voluntary Gift Drive 2010

Please do not make a donation if you are one of our POZ members (unless you are well off or rich) or a struggling HIV positive person (I can relate, I have been homeless and without food many times in the past, but no more in the future), there is no need for you to risk your own financing to help me (I have all the necessities of life taken care of, medications are covered, food is in the fridge, clothes are on my back). But, if you know someone with extra money to spare for a good humanitarian cause, please direct them to this page (the money will go towards our sites guranteed)!

Why Does The HIV/AIDS Network Need Your Help?:

It costs DaveyBoy average $50.00 per month just for electricity to run the 2 servers (plus 3 workstations which also run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week), over $125.00 per month for high-speed business internet access (not allowed to run a server on cheaper residential lines), and 20-50 dollars a month for other costs (like domain names, picture hosting, etc). DaveyBoy does not get funding of any sort as he is not a charity (sites are "not for profit" though). Costs are covered to date by DaveyBoy and small donations (some months there is no donations), but most months all costs are incurred by DaveyBoy.

DaveyBoy recently bought a NEW SERVER (equivalent to 8 computers rolled into one as it basically has 8 CPUs that share one mother board/system). Same as this Dell Server (2 @ Quad Core Intel® Xeon®, 4GB RAM, 2 @ 36GB SAS 15K RPM Hard Drives - equivalent to 8 CPUs), still need to upgrade this new server (more ram and bigger hard drives) when an extra $2,500 comes in to me magically. DaveyBoy also bought 3 workstations a few years ago (2.66GHz CPU, 1GB RAM, 80GB HD, Windows XP Pro), from Dell that are needing to be upgraded to dual or quad core faster CPU processors (also needs 2GB RAM, 500GB HD) kits for each PC. All this equipment is used in some way or another for the running, administering and running of our web sites.

Please help out, even a dollar can help out. Our POZ Network helps over 50,000 people per month (we have over 1 million visitors a year, both POZ and negative).

Many people ask questions like: "Why does DaveyBoy have to pay so much to run sites?", "Why can't he just run his sites from free hosting from BraveNet.com like other sites?", "Why can't DaveyBoy just use MySpace?", Why can't DaveyBoy just get a cheap web hosting company for less than 20 bucks a month to run sites?", etc...
Well, some answers are: I cannot run web applications programmed in ASP or PHP (these are advanced programming languages that allow me to create web based software) on free web hosting. Cheap web hosting companies only allow one domain per account and I have about 100 sites & 50 domains (half are non POZ, but they contribute to incomes that help pay the bills for the servers), therefore it would cost almost 50 accounts x $10 a month ($500/mnth) and it has been much cheaper in the long run for me to do it myself (the new server will literally pay for itself in less than a year). Average priced hosting accounts do not have chat servers (nor the cheap ones, hardly any do and if they do you get a single room, we have a dozen). Average priced ($20-$40 per month) specialize in either ASP or PHP hosting, our sites require both, plus they do not support more than a single domain (again, I have almost 100 domains). DaveyBoy cannot control many security features on hosted accounts, being the server administrator allows him full access to firewalls (banning trouble makers and web hackers/attackers) and all software running on the actual computers, this gives DaveyBoy greater power to keep out troublemakers/spammers/scammers. Hosting accounts do not allow clients to add third party add-ons or plug-ins to their web servers that may help DaveyBoy produce better web tools for POZ. Hosting accounts do not allow installation of any software/utility/tool (such as tools to assist with mass editing web pages, cannot even unzip an archive on paid hosting accounts) that may help DaveyBoy make sites run. Most hosting companies limit your bandwidth usage (then the price goes up per MB transferred, web server uses 2-4GB a day, that's equivalent to 3,000 floppies a day or 4 CDs), yet business cable internet is unlimited.

Some people may not trust giving a stranger pure cash to spend (maybe worried DaveyBoy will spend on non needed items or something illegal), so DaveyBoy will also accept gift certificates (Ebay, Wendys, Walmart/SamsClub, RadioShack, etc), checks, money orders, cashier cheques, change collections (jar of pennies or loose change), American food stamps, gold jewelry (old, broken, missing stones), stocks/bonds, any sort of semi-valuable item/product (non perishable) that can be sold on Ebay, old computers and parts (hard drives, RAM, etc), etc. Use email address Support@HIV-AIDS-POZ.com for online purchased gift certificates please...

What/Who is the HIV/AIDS Network?

This is a network of a dozen websites offering HIV/AIDS information, support and links to local resources for the general public. Our major focus is on support offered for free to HIV+ people through chat, meeting/dating services, classifieds (rent, selling), message forums, etc. Hundreds of members live in rural areas, but find POZ companionship with the HIV/AIDS Network®'s web sites. Many couples have met locally, some even have been married (even gay marriages) by meeting each other by "fluke" on our www.HIVdate.com (free HIV dating site)! Many people meet others through the chat rooms, sometimes people travel and meet up in a public place. Our sites even give me (DaveyBoy, founder) hope, as I realize I am not alone (I like the chats the best, talking about and accepting my HIV with other HIV+ is my mental therapy, plus we have many great peer supporters for when I am down)! I even met my wife with my creations after helping many others.

Examples of our FREE HIV+ Support web sites:
www.HIVsearch.com, www.HIVforum.com, www.HIVdate.com, www.HIVAIDSsearch.com, www.AIDSchat.org, www.HIV-AIDS-POZ.com, www.HIV-AIDS-Meds.com, and more...

Revenue Canada takes the position that a gift is a voluntary transfer of property without valuable consideration. In other words, other than the issuing of a receipt, there is no value given for the gift. Generally a cash gift is made if all three of these conditions are met:
· some property - usually cash - is transferred by a donor
· the transfer is voluntary; and
· the transfer is made without expectation of return (no reciept), no benefit of any kind may be provided to the giver

Please Help Me Get Funding:

To date, I have successfully started an online HIV/AIDS live 24/7 support network (1998-2009), 24 hour HIV/AIDS education (information and facts) for those needing information and many HIV prevention tactics (posters, banner campaign, etc) without any startup grants or funds! I get almost 2 million visitors to my online web sites each year. Some of my main sites such are: http://www.HIVforum.com (people can ask questions about HIV/AIDS and get a response), http://www.HIVsearch.com (search for HIV/AIDS info), http://www.HIV-AIDS-Meds.com (new HIV/AIDS medicine database), http://www.POZ.ca, http://www.HIVAIDSsearch.com (HIV/AIDS education directory of links), http://www.13km.com (HIV/AIDS chat server), http://www.HIVdate.com (HIV/AIDS only dating and pen pals, so hard for HIV+ to meet others), http://www.HIV-AIDS-POZ.com (HIV art), etc... I have fully funded these projects from my disability check. It is not cheap running all these domains/sites, running my own web server, running my own chat server, buying my own domain names, paying for monthly picture hosting, high speed internet costs, etc. Costs now are more than they were 4 years ago when I first started, seems my costs are now more than I can afford without financial help. I have saved so much money by designing and doing all my own programming (over the last 4 years, it would have cost over $750,000.00 to hire 2 ASP programmers, a HTML programmer, graphic designer, an animation designer, network administrator, chat room monitors, email readers/responders, promoting/advertising department, search engine submissions, etc) as I knew it would be hard to prove to the World I was capable of doing this (so I might try for start-up funding some day), but I now have the proof (bit rough, but will be worked on more as usual).

My sites have about 20,000 HIV positive members (free membership) and another 50,000 who visit occasionally. Each day about 5,000 people come to my sites (HIV+ and HIV negative) seeking online friends, advice, educational facts, statistics, web links to prominent sites, etc. I do all I can to help anyone who contacts me through email, chat rooms or other routes.

Many members rely on my services daily for meeting others (in our online chat rooms on www.13km.com) and talking about their HIV status. Couples have even met through my services and some have even been married! Unfortunately my sites are not available everyday as sometimes my disability check will not cover all expenses. The days that my sites cannot run, I put up a "temp down page" explaining the reason for downtime and usually someone will send me a little money to help me pay off the bills to get back up. When my sites are down, many members start emailing me sending their condolences and hoping I will be back online soon so they can get back into my chat rooms to meet their POZ friends (some members panic when I go down because this is their only source of talking about their issues with others in the same situation, talking is therapy).

Over the last 9 years, I have spent about $15,000 (and up) on expenses and computer/software costs in order to make this network succeed, even yesterday (March 3rd, 2007) I just bought a ($3,000 US from my dental funds and rest on Dell credit) industrial computer server. I don't know any other organization in the World that helps almost 2,000,000 people a year for less than $2,500 a year (costs 1.25 cents for me to help every 10 people, even for you to read this entire email it costs almost 20 cents in salary). I can do a lot with a little! If I had more money, I can help these people better by making more services and making my sites more reliable (just by having a better internet account that was prepaid for a year, my sites would be online 99% of the year instead of 66%-75% like they are now, I could literally help another 750,000 people with the extra uptime).
